Trap shooting team is state bound
The Zimmerman trap shooting team qualified for the Minnesota State High School League tournament.
Competing in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Trap Shooting Championship last weekend at Alexandria Shooting Park, the Thunder took 34th, respectively, shooting 475 of 500 targets. The top 40 teams out of around 325 teams statewide are guaranteed spots in the MSHSL tournament.
For Zimmerman, Mason Riddel and Damon Ziebarth led the way, shooting 96 of 100 targets. They were followed by Tyler Johnson, Clay Sandy and Bryant Yanta, who rounded out team scoring by shooting 95, 94 and 94 targets, respectively.
The team found out about advancing to state following the conclusion of the nine-day trap shooting championship on June 19. Each day consisted of different classes competing to advance to the MSHSL tournament.
Zimmerman’s Riddel, was named to the All-State team. Riddel qualified for the state individual competition as well.
Zimmerman will compete in the MSHSL tournament on June 22 at Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
